This annual compilation of statistical data relies on substantial help and guidance from a host of civil servants at the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Department for Work and Pensions, the Treasury, the Welsh Government, the Scottish Government, the Northern Ireland Executive, the Office for National Statistics and elsewhere. Similar assistance was provided by the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the Homes and Communities Agency, Greater London Authority and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Their enormous help in compiling this year's edition of the Review is most readily and warmly acknowledged.

We are particularly grateful to the collective help provided by this year's sponsors (see cover), without whom the 24th edition (and future editions) would not be published, especially since the Department for Communities and Local Government has been unable to continue its support. It is therefore particularly pleasing that among the sponsors are the Scottish Government, Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. We are also grateful for the continuing support over the years by the Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York and the new involvement of I-SPHERE at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

Many of the statistical data presented here can be accessed in a variety of published, or publicly available, statistical series, and sources are comprehensively acknowledged against each table in the Review.

This year the authors, led by Steve Wilcox, include also John Perry, Mark Stephens of Heriot Watt University and Peter Williams. The Review has again been published by the Chartered Institute of Housing with John Perry as production editor. Jeremy Spencer (graphic designer) is thanked for his tireless patience and creative contribution to its design and production. Alan Lewis has again assisted with compiling the tables, aided on this occasion by Paul Cosgrove, also from Heriot Watt University.

For all the diverse help provided, and despite every attempt that has been made to check and double check all the figures included in the Review, and the construction put upon them, the final responsibility for any errors, omissions or misjudgements is entirely that of the editors. The views expressed in the Review are the responsibility of the respective authors.
